Alex Acuña - The Rhythm Collector
Join Alex Acuña as he takes you on a journey from his homeland in Peru to
high-profile "A" list session drummer. He also reveals his very favorite rhythms
and demonstrates how they apply to drum set and any drumming vocabulary. Must
see performances with his new Jazz group featuring Abe Laborial Sr., Patrice
Rushen and Gusto Almario, as well as Alternative Latin Rock group Kinky make

Half documentary, half concert performance, this is an excellent program
about the rediscovered culture of Cuba. The first program, entitled The
Afro-Cuban All-Stars at the Salon of Dreams, is a documentary profiling the
famous Sonerto group and their bandleader, Juan de Marcos Gonzalez. The second
program is the live performance of 90-year-old tres player and Trova musician,
Compay Segundo at the Olympia in Paris.

mainstream in caribbean music, in particular, Salsa Dura. The band features
Edwind Sanchez, Ruben Rodriguez, Nicky Marrero, George Delgado, George Padilla,
Angie Machado, Jeff lederer, Mauricio Smith, Jr. and Juan Ray Bayona.
Brasilintime - Batucada Com Discos
Brasilintime is a filmic map that connects the world of Rio de Janeiro of the late teens to the South Bronx of the early 70s. The roads from Samba through Bossa Nova to Hip Hop are a complex web of musical whispers and echoes. Brasilintime is a 2-hour documentary that traverses this journey. In November of 2002, drummers and DJs traveled to Sao Paulo Brazil to expand the multi-generational conversation to include their counterparts from the world of Samba, Bossa Nova and Samba Rock, as well as the best new talent from Brazilian Hip Hop. This show was recorded and became the basis for this DVD. Brasilintime speaks the language of the music it addresses.

Buena Vista Social Club
No one can recall exactly where the Buena Vista Social Club once stood in pre-revolutionary Havana, but Wim Wenders's documentary of a dozen legendary musicians resurrects the magnificent music of the era. Guitarist Ry Cooder assembled the aging singers and musicians for a series of recording sessions. The resulting 1997 album won a Grammy. The music performances are intercut with shots of the performers reminiscing in decaying Havana bars.
